Maddison McKibbin grew up playing beach volleyball on the famed “baby court” of the Outrigger Canoe Club in Honolulu, Hawaii alongside other current AVP pros. He played at Punahou High School, and then went to the mainland to play for the University of Southern California. After college, Maddison played one year of indoor overseas in Greece. Upon his return, Maddison and his older brother Riley began their beach volleyball careers on the AVP in 2015. In 2017, after Riley broke his wrist in the first tournament of the year, Maddison partnered with former Olympian Reid Priddy. Later he paired up with Ty Loomis, and the duo would go onto to win the 2017 San Francisco Open. Maddison plays beach volleyball left-handed, but he didn’t always play that way. Maddison is actually right-handed, but when he was 11, he sustained a serious elbow injury. During this two-year-long recovery, he practiced playing with his left hand daily. By the time his right elbow healed, Maddison had made the full transition to playing volleyball left-handed.
